Thursday Thirteen #5-Musicals
I am the world biggest fan of musicals. I get chills and misty eyed. Here is thirteen musicals I can watch multiple times and not be bored.
1. The King and I – that Yul Brenner was one sexy bald headed man. Anna was strong willed and would not back down.
2. The Wiz – I can’t choose a part I like more. I just liked it.
3. The Sounds of Music – I felt so free and like I need not complain because there was the example of someone going through something worse than I was. Julie Andrews.
4. West Side Story – I am a hopeless romantic.
5. Mary Poppins – Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, such talented people.
6. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang – Dick Van Dyke and the silliness of it all.
7. Dreamgirls – some really heart felt songs.
8. Fame – misfits dancing to the music.
9. Amadeus – I love classical music. I always have and always will.
10. Grease – John Travolta was hot stuff, Olivia Newton-John wasn’t fool anyone acting all innocent.
11. Little Shop of Horrors – I thought for a while I had a voice like Audrey.
12. Oklahoma – I really just like the songs.
13. Rent – Absolutely fabulous.
Politics…I Usually Don’t Do It
I usually don’t watch any of these political campaigns, because I did a lot of that type of television watching when I was growing up, doing current events homework/projects. I so happened to have my television on when Michelle Obama made her speech last night, and I was proud of her like she was my older sister or relative.
Some say she should of wasted her time bashing John McCain, but why stoop to those levels? She conducted herself as a lady, make that as a First Lady should. She beamed about being a part of a wonderful family past and present. If I was her children I wouldn’t only be proud because their father will be President of the United States, but because their mother showed the nation, she is a woman with great integrity.
There is no one who can say Michelle Obama doesn’t have a warm and welcoming heart. My goodness, I was so proud of her. She had my eyes tearing up, because of her pride in family. She doesn’t have a nanny raising her daughters. I the real world the middle class and lower class family don’t have a nanny or a chef or any of the hired help. She’s like me.
I know some may be surprised at this but the satirical cartoon that was on the New Yorker, I liked it. To me a satirical piece in art is all about those things you aren’t. And I said wow these people are amazing at how much time they wasted coming up with a piece showing exactly what Michelle and Barack Obama is trying to prove that they aren’t. They handled it with dignity and grace.
I also loved the way Barack stood up for his wife when they tried to bash her. Twisting her words in ways they saw fit to twist it. That is a proud and supporting husband, how dear someone anyone say a negative word about the mother of his children, his loving wife. If he hadn’t reacted my eyebrows would have arched a little, because no macho man would stand by and watch as people outright disrespect his wife. He made me proud that day.
I have no issues with Hillary, because she proved she was a strong woman some years ago when she stayed with her cheating spouse. She stood by her man. If she had won the Democratic vote to run, I would have been alright with that too. Bill Clinton did the United States proud, and then along came a diseased infected Bush, destroying what he corrected after the other parasite called Papa Bush did.
I remember when I was in junior high school and my social studies teacher was called to go to war. It was my first year in junior high. He didn’t come back until a few days before my graduation from the school, three years later. What the hell have we been fighting for all these damn years? We are a struggling nation. All the money we are shelling out to keep this war going is drying up our economy. We need to turn that money around to helping our country. I know people who have lost family, I have family in it. I don’t want to see another mother cry for her just out of high school son dying on a battle field, a pregnant wife having to raise her baby by herself because her husband was brought back to her in a pine box. And most importantly I don’t want to meet the child with one light out in their eye, because their daddy didn’t come back like he promised he would.
The change will come if we get rid of the infestation called the Republican Party, now known as John McCain. With Barack Obama and the Democratic Party I can see a change.
Three Word Tuesday #3-Back to School
The back to school I’m speaking about today, is for me, myself, and I. After some double digit number of years, I’m returning to college to finish up something I started many years ago, but got off track.
I am fulfilling a dream at the same time as setting an example to my children and anyone else who thinks it’s too late to do anything. I want my kids to know even though I got sidetracked a little, I am not to old to go to school and get a college education. I do understand that in these days and time having a college degree doesn’t necessarily get you a job, but it gets you a boost in confidence that anything is possible.
So while some parents are out there standing on their doorstep, cup of coffee in hand, smiling as their child gets on the bus, I will be maneuvering my car toward a classroom of possibilities.
Thursday Thirteen #4-Sitcoms
I love television sitcoms. I can’t seem to get enough of them. I hate to say it, but a lot of my favorites happened before I was born. I like them all so much I don’t even know if I can call a favorite. In no specific order her is thirteen shows I could watch over and over again.
1. Bewitched – I would love to have the power to change the weather and fix my here with a little twitch of my nose.
2. Facts of Life – I can’t roller skate that good, but I would be Tootie so I can go all over on skates. I don’t want her braces though. I would like the toughness of Jo and the grace of Blair.
3. I Dream of Jeanie – Come on now, who couldn’t use someone granting their every wish? I would like a lamp to rub.
4. Different Strokes – To this day the famous saying of Arnold is used. “What you talking ’bout Willis?” Just what was Willis talking about? Who knows!
5. The Cosby Show – They gave the African American family hope. It was possible to have a mom and dad who had high end jobs, who didn’t cheat on each other, and was always there for their family.
6. A Different World – Another show of hope for the African American younger generation. The ones headed towards college. Yes we too deserved to learn and if we applied ourselves we could do it. I also had a serious crush on Dwayne Wayne. I hated Whitley having my man. LOL
7. Three’s Company – Chrissy was so dingy, and Jack was the man. Living in an apartment with women who would wear those skimpy nightgowns. Mr. Furley and Mr. Roper killed me with their facial expressions.
8. Gimme a Break – RIP Nell Carter. I really enjoyed the song that went with the show, and Nell was just so loving.
9. I Love Lucy – Lucy was one determined woman to get into show business. She did the craziest things. The best one I think was when she and that lady got into a fight in the wine tub where they were squishing the grapes to make the wine. She was practicing for the movie she had finally got a part in, only to loose it because she was purple.
10. ALF – I thought ALF was a lot like me. He had an opinion and he let it be known. I just couldn’t get down with the whole eating of the cat thing though.
11. The Munsters – Herman was a mess up. To show you how much I loved that show, I almost had my wedding dress designed with the flair out sleeves like Lily’s dress. Shh, don’t tell anyone. I had the sketch and everything.
12. One Day at a Time – I just loved the whole concept of a mother and her two daughters getting along and making it without a man in the house.
13. Good Times – I all I have to say is KID DYNAMITE! LOL
Book Buzz Tag
Imagine my surprise when I see in my email I have been tagged by none other than Yasmin Coleman of APOOO.
I can do the challenge.
Here’s the idea (you can copy this paragraph to use in your post):
I am going to list three categories of books. 5 MUST Read Books, 5 Books on Your Nightstand, and 5 Look For These Soon. Keeping with the theme, I am going to tag at least 5 bloggers. They should put these same lists on their blog but SUBTRACT one book from each list and ADD one of their own. Then they should tag at least 5 more bloggers. It will be fun to see how the lists change as it goes around the blogosphere. Please come back to this post and leave a comment so I can see how the lists are changing as they go around the blogosphere. Since this is Book Buzz…please keep your lists to titles released in 2007-2009.
5 MUST Read Books:
Them by Nathan McCall
Orange Mint and Honey by Carleen Brice
Slow Burn by Ebony Farashuu

Thursday Thirteen #3
When I was growing up, my family would wake up early on Saturday mornings and indulge in cartoon watching. There is nothing like the cartoons from back in the day. Today’s cartoons are alright, but the classics have my heart forever. Here it is #1 being my all time favorite.
13. Tom & Jerry – These two showed me cats really had nine lives and if you eat enough cheese you too can be wise as a rat. Maybe that’s being sneaky.
12. Roadrunner – I wish I was half as fast as the bird. I would have picked on my siblings leaving them in the dust. Maybe I would have been able to get away from my parents when it was time for a spanking.
11. Popeye – Talk about a man with a plan. Popeye was not too smart, but his strength won him the woman. You know for many years I was told I look like Olive Oyl.
10. Bugs Bunny – What more can one say about that rascally rabbit?
9. The Flintstones – Since everything was made out of stone, if I was Wilma I would have hit Fred upside the head for always messing up. I believe she was showing us young girls to stick in your marriage no matter how many times he screwed up.
8. The Jetsons – I wanted to be in that little jet flying around. But like Fred Flintstone, George Jetson was a screw up. Can you image just pushing a button and swallowing a pill and calling that a meal?
7. The Snorks – I can’t swim, but I love under water life. I want to be like the snorks, never worrying about running out of air.
6. The Transformers – Who didn’t like the ever changing automobiles? Plus I had a thing for Optimus Prime. I think it was his size.
5. G.I. Joe – This was the only way I would be in the military, by pretending to be a G.I. Joe. They didn’t die they always won.
4. Vultron – That was a representation of true teamwork. In order to become one they had to come together.
3. Thundercats – I don’t like real life cats, but these cats were fierce. I wished I was as fast as Cheetara.
2. Woody Woodpecker – I think he was witty and smart, and he had the most infectious laugh. I know all of ya’ll remember a time when you practiced laughing like Woody.
1. Smurfs – My all time favorite. Papa Smurfs was so smart and loving, but Brainy Smurf and Smurfette got on my nerves.
I could go on forever. I didn’t realize how many cartoons I really watched back then.

Three Word Tuesday #2
These words were picked by my son Xavier: love, expression, can(soda)
The school was having a contest. For each grade the topic was different. Xavier is in the three grade, he wanted to enter the contest.
The contest for the three grade was to come up with a slogan having to do with the expression of emotion. Xavier thought about this for a few days, then it came to him. He would take a picture of his family, then his slogan would be “Family is great. Look at the happiness on our face. Family is love.”
He turned it in. He felt very proud, and indeed he should. His mother told him it didn’t matter if he won or lost, because it was a beautiful sentiment. They would hang it in their house.
A few days later Xavier came home with a letter, he needed his mom to sign. She read it aloud.
Dear Parents,
It’s my pleasure to inform you that your child’s project has been selected to be featured on a can of soda. We need you to sign below saying that we have your permission to do so.
Sincerely,
The Principal
Now how cool was that?
